Osteopathy is a therapy that approaches health by analyzing the imbalances found in the musculoskeletal system. The musculoskeletal system combines the muscles, skeleton, tendons, ligaments and joints. An Osteopathic therapist will use their hands as prime tools to feel and diagnose the musculoskeletal imbalances. Osteopathy approaches health through a holistic lens. Osteopathy not only cures the symptoms it finds the root of the problem and restores balance enabling the entire body to work as one.

Osteopathy focuses on the concept that the entire body works as a whole and that every part of the body is integrated. When the integration is interrupted, restricted or over used it will have a domino effect on the entire body causing imbalances and discomfort. Osteopathy provides relief from pain, inflammation, tightness, muscular tension and anxiety. A therapist will utilize deep tissue massage, joint mobility, deep tactile pressure and superficial stimulation to provide their patience with relief from their imbalances.

An Osteopathic specialist has endured vigorous training and as a result has developed a profound understanding of the musculoskeletal system and a general knowledge of medicine. They spend years developing the various hands on techniques which enable them to feel and read the body's imbalances.

At a visit with an Osteopathy specialist you will endure a thorough medical history to provide the specialist with information that will assist him in your diagnosis. Before beginning the treatment the specialist might require you to perform certain movements to help him distinguish the problems and imbalances you have and if they can treat it of if you need to visit a general practitioner. If the therapist feels osteopathy would help your situation and you are confident in his abilities then you will proceed with treatment.

A typical session will last about between half an hour to an hour. Items of clothing might need to be removed for the specialist to work the tissue and restore joint mobility and stability. Within several visits the specialist can restore the imbalances you are experiencing and provide you with tools to maintain balance throughout your body.
