The entry requirement for this Sports Massage course is a recognised qualification in anatomy, physiology and massage or equivalent. (If you are an MSCM massage student you are able to book your place and start this course before you have the results of your Massage exam.) Physiotherapists, Sports Scientists, Osteopaths, Chiropractors and other health professionals may also attend – some supplementary massage training may be necessary.
This unique innovative course with its modular design offers you a flexible approach giving you the opportunity to learn and complete the course at your own pace. The course consists of three home study modules which can be started at any time, three foundation sports therapy massage modules and five therapeutic sports massage techniques modules. (14 days attendance in total.) In addition you will be allocated a Sports Massage Therapy tutor to offer you support and mentoring throughout the duration of the course.
The course is structured as follows:
THEORY HOME STUDY MODULES -
o Anatomy & Physiology for Sports Massage
o Theory of Sports Massage including Sports Nutrition
o Professionalism and Ethics
PRACTICAL MODULES
Foundation modules (must be done before Regional Therapeutic Sports Massage Techniques modules)
o Surface Anatomy & Palpation Skills (1 day)
o Postural & Clinical Assessment (2 days)
o Sports Massage Techniques (2 days)
Regional Therapeutic Sports Massage Techniques modules -
These can be done in any order but can only be attended after completion of the foundation modules)
o Therapeutic sports massage techniques for
the shoulder, arm, elbow and wrist (2 days)
o Therapeutic sports massage techniques for
the hip, leg, ankle and foot (2 days)
o Therapeutic sports massage techniques
for the neck and spine (2 days)
o Therapeutic sports massage techniques for
the knee (2 days)
o Taping and Strapping for sports (1 day)

The course is primarily practical in content and you will be required to have a Massage Couch and appropriate workwear during the course.
Successful completion of this diploma course will provide you with the title of "Sports Massage Therapist", and the knowledge and techniques needed to give a treatment. Practitioner insurance is also available upon successful completion of the course.
EXAMINATIONS:
You will be assessed by an externally set multiple choice and short answer question paper as well as a 2 hour written paper. Your technical skills and treatments techniques will be examined via a practical examination, treatment evidence records and an event log.
MSCM run ITEC exams every 12-14 weeks on average –This is a flexible course so you will be able to join an exam date that suits you.
To receive your qualification you must also hold a valid one day First Aid qualification
