Infertility in both men and women is becoming increasingly common in recent times, causing great stress and anxiety for those concerned. Environmental pollution is having a long term deleterious effect on male and female fertility. Since the 1960's the number of viable sperm produced by man per ejaculate has decreased from 200,000,000 to 50,000,000. This may not seem to be a too drastic fall but unfortunately if the figure drops much below the 50,000,000 then the male of the specie will be considered to be infertile!
In reality this drastic fall in the number of viable sperm produced by the male has a knock-on effect on the chances of the female conceiving. Add to this the fact that many women are leaving starting a family until later in life, and in doing so, reducing their chances of conceiving! Add to this the increasing number of females being diagnosed with Endometriosis and Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome, which reduces the chances of conceiving and we realise we have a catch 22 situation on our hands.
