Are you having problems with your shoulders and back? If you have answered yes to this question then you need to change the way you work or your career will be short-lived. Why hurt yourself whilst trying to help others?
This is part 2 of the brand new course to accompany Darien Pritchard’s latest book ’Dynamic Bodyuse for Effective Strain-Free Massage’ - the widely acclaimed career maintenance reference book which is the manual for this workshop. You can choose to attend both Part 1 and 2 or either workshop - whatever your needs.
Massage practitioners can regularly find themselves with tight shoulders and a stiff or aching back at the end of a working day. It’s often the slow accumulation of small, unnoticed tensions and habits that can build up over time into problems for the practitioner. Massage, like any other physical activity, needs regular care and attention by the massage practitioner to avoid falling into poor working habits which could undermine your massage career.
This workshop offers clear practical guidelines on looking after your body when doing massages. It focuses on: information on common causes of shoulder and back tension when doing massages; simple exercises to release this tension and re-balance your body (both before and after delivering a massage treatment); how to use your lower body to initiate and deliver power and fluidity to your massage strokes; involving your whole body in massage strokes, rather than standing still and just relying on your shoulders and arms; good bod-yuse practices to support your working hands in action - especially positioning and moving your body well; guidelines for using your body to deliver common types of massage strokes in an effective, minimal strain way: developing self-monitoring so that you can notice tensions early on and make preventative changes before they develop into permanent problems. The overall focus is on using your body in ways that are effective while causing you least strain - using natural body strength in a way that is neither hard nor rigid, so that you can work with ease while still applying firm pressure. [Note: This workshop complements the ‘Protecting your Hands” workshop, which focuses on reducing the strain on your hands of delivering massage treatment.)
The course fee includes a copy of the book that accompanies this course - if you already have a copy let us know
