Diovan is an angiotensin II antagonist. Diovan contains valsartan. It is used to control high blood pressure in the body.

Diovan is useful for treating hypertensive patients having sudden rise of blood pressure. It can treat patients with heart dysfunction and left ventricular hypertrophy.

Angiotensin II is an enzyme secreted in the body and is responsible for causing the constriction of the blood vessels and increases the blood pressure. Angiotensin II antagonist will prevent the action of angiotensin II and will dilate the blood vessels. Dilated blood vessels will lead to more filtration from the kidneys and the retained water will move out that will lower the blood pressure ultimately.
