The Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI) is a specialty association for General Surgery and its objectives are to advance the science and art of surgery. Our membership consists of general surgeons from across Great Britain and Ireland and we are the umbrella organisation for the following specialty associations:-

- The Association of Breast Surgery at BASO The Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland

- The Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland

- The Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons

-The British Association of Endocrine Surgeons

-The British Transplantation Society

-The Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland.  

Additionally, we collaborate closely with the Society of Academic and Research Surgery.

We promote and arrange scientific and training meetings covering every aspect of the practice of general surgery and the skills required to run an effective surgical practice. We provide advice and support to our members and make recommendations to the Department of Health (England and Wales), the Scottish Executive (Scotland), the Health Service Executive (Ireland), the Royal Surgical Colleges within the Great Britain and Ireland and other Government bodies.
