The VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage is also recognised by the Sports Massage Association (SMA), allowing successful candidates to become affiliate members.

The overall aim of this course is to develop knowledge and understanding of muscular- skeletal injuries and conditions and learn all the relevant skills to provide sports massage or pain therapy in all environments. So those who want to work in a sports environment or with professional or amateur athletes independently will benefit from this course, in addition to those therapists who wish to learn new skills for treating clients with injuries, chronic pain or restricted range of motion; skills can therefore be combined with existing therapies to widen scope of treatment and also treating new types of clients.

course content

This course will provide the knowledge and skills to be able to prepare for and applying a range of sports massage techniques and the skills to be able to deliver massage in a range of contexts e.g. injury treatment, conditioning, pre-competition, during competition, post-competition, post-travel. Content includes: relevant consultation, contra-indications, postural analysis, massage pre & post event, advanced Massage techniques for specific conditions, recognising posture deformities, remedial therapy for conditions of the Foot, Ankle, Knee, Leg, Torso, Neck, Hand, Elbow, Shoulder, joint & muscle function in physical activity, sports massage for musculo-skeletal injuries, effective after-care, common remedial conditions, stretches & exercises, strengthening, mobility & co-ordination exercises, refreshing relevant anatomy & physiology, working practice within sports club.

entry qualifications

• Cheshire Massage Academy Pre-requisite qualification (2 days) 
• VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Massage, or equivalent qualification*, with appropriate Anatomy & Physiology (extra Anatomy & Physiology may be needed if all areas have not been previously covered, done as extra assignments), and
• a minimum 6 hours recognised qualification in First Aid. (This requirement can be completed simultaneously with us or elsewhere if you do not hold a current First Aid qualification, price on application).
