Some people achieve great things in their life, why not you? And why not now? ~ Bruce Kidson
Do you long to shine? To be the best you, you can be? Yes. Great let’s start discovering your possibilities.
We each have six main areas of our lives, Health, Spiritual, Relationships, Mental improvement, Social, and financial and career. A great place to start discovering your possibilities was when you were little. Remember when you were small say between six and eight years old what did you want to be, do and have then in each of those areas of life.
Did you want to build a school in Africa? Drive a Ferrari? Did you consciously decide to settle for less? Probably not, we get a knock back or two and suddenly we find ourselves older and living a life that we never imagined when we were small. Jot down when you were small what was it that you wanted to be do and have. This is the first step in discovering your possibilities what you believed was possible once.
For each of these areas Health, Spiritual, Relationships, Mental improvement, Social, and financial and career. Put down what you believe is possible for you now.
Want ideas? Another way of discovering your possibilities is to make a list of all the things that you enjoy doing and/or good at. Which gives you the greatest pleasure? Those too are possibilities.
When you read about something, whether it’s kite surfing doing voluntary work with the VSO or starting a business or having a family and you think ‘that’s interesting’ then you have discovered another possibility for yourself.
Keep a list of all these possibilities that you have discovered. Ponder/contemplate/meditate on them.
Start to explore the possibilities that you find most interesting. Ask yourself questions; the better the questions you ask yourself, the better answers you will get.
Having discovered a possibility that interest you if your reaction is; ‘interesting, or that sounds fun but impossible for me. ’ Ask ‘I know that’s impossible for me, but if it wasn’t impossible, how would I do it? ’ Be playful and note your answers. Remember the brightest jewels diamonds are formed under great pressure. And so it is often with life, we get to shine the brightest when circumstances are the darkest.
Having discovered some possibilities you think you might have left it a little late. Late Bloomers show a huge number of people you didn’t achieve their success till later. Grandma Moses didn’t take up painting career, till she was in her 70’s.
Business; Colonel Saunders started Kentucky Fried Chicken with his first ‘retirement’ cheque.
Politics in the US the average age of a senator is 62 and over 80% have had previous career(s) outside of politics, some of the senators even having done time in jail.
Sport: Oscar Swahn won 2 Gold medals when he was 60.
Writing: Flora Thompson was aged 63 when she wrote her first novel ‘Lark Rise to Candleford’
Want to start a new religion The Hare Krishna was started in 1966 by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada who was aged 70 at that time.
It’s not too late to discover your possibilities and then live the life you were born to live.
