Colour Therapy is healing with colour. Colour has a powerful influence on our body chemistry.
The strongest effect is through the eyes, but good results can be achieved with topical application on the skin or over certain reflex points, organs or the spine.
We can easily use colours to heal by wearing a specific colour to make us feel better or with a specific purpose, for example wearing red will give us more motivation and confidence and help us get things done. If one had high blood pressure the body is over heating and so the last colour to wear would be red; blue on the other hand would be very calming in that situation.
Different colour foods can give a healthy balance let us take the example again of the person with high blood pressure for them it would be beneficial not to eat too many red foods such as beef steak. Whereas if we were procrastinating and feeling lazy and lethargic and couldn't get things done then a steak might do us the world of good and give the energy that is needed.
Here are 3 Easy exercises for you to experiment with and make a note of how you feel:
-
Sit comfortably with your eyes closed and imagine a specific colour is shining upon you. Experiment with different colours and record how you feel each time.
-
Sit or Lay comfortably with eyes closed and imagine that your inhaled breath is coloured. As you are breathing in and out feel the colour in your chest as you inhale and exhale and imagine the colour flowing through your veins.
-
You can also experiment with exposing your drinking water to the sunlight in coloured glass bottles or putting cellophane around the bottle. When you know which colours to use this is a simple and effective treatment for not only drinking but for wound care, as an eye wash and gargling.
It is important to select bright, clear colours for healing as murky colours usually have unpleasant effects. Yellow will normally be uplifting, green will be harmonising and pale blue will be peaceful.
Colour Therapy is for the Mind and Body
Colour therapy is not just about making you feel good. Colour therapy aids us both mentally and physiologically and a therapist may implement colour in many different ways. Studies have shown that when colour is introduced to the human system it causes cellular and hormonal changes thus bringing the cells into synchronisation or balance with the colour.
How Does Colour Work?
Each colour corresponds to a specific area of the body and each colour will vibrate at it's own unique frequency, as do the glands and organs of the body. The body however constantly changes due to the challenges as it tries to maintain balance but colour always vibrates to it's true frequency.
When we are ill, the body is out of balance, the body is not functioning at its proper frequencies. The aim of colour therapy is to bring balance back to the area of the body that is the source of the illness. Since each colour corresponds to a specific area of the body, we need each colour.
Disease is Disharmony
In a disease state, there may be over-stimulation, with too much red in the body system resulting in high blood pressure, fever, inflammation, irritability, skin rash, red eyeballs and even pink fingernails.
The other side of the scales would indicate a under-stimulation with too much blue resulting in pale skin, sluggishness, bluish eyeballs, bluish nails. The over-stimulated condition will benefit from a blue colour treatment, while the under-stimulated condition will benefit with a red or orange.
Green is the general healing colour and is often used at the beginning of a colour therapy treatment and before other specific colours are used as it represents harmony and balanced body polarities.
The following colour chart reveals some of their healing features when used:
