Why Massage Therapy?
Did you know that the earliest reference to massage therapy was found in Egyptian tombs? Some of the scenes painted on tomb walls depict ancient Egyptians using essential oils, practicing reflexology and enjoying foot rubs. Talk about an advanced civilization, right?
Today, doctors and insurance companies acknowledge the health benefits of massage, with insurance companies expanding coverage and doctors referring their patients to massage therapists for treatment.
That's because massage therapy has been proven effective for reducing pain and muscle tension, and some studies show that massage therapy can be beneficial in the treatment of many other ailments, including anxiety, headaches and fibromyalgia.
But even at its most basic, massage therapy can turn a sad day into a rad day. Getting a massage can relieve stress and put a skip in our step. Getting a massage just makes us feel better.
How rewarding would it be to make a career out of making other people feel better? How gratifying would it be to make a career out of improving someone's day on a cellular level?
As more and more people are seeking out massage therapy, whether as a way to deal with chronic pain or just as a way to relax, opportunities for massage therapists are growing—faster than the average for all other careers, according to the United States Department of Labor.
Sounds exhilarating, doesn't it? But, wait—there are some other things you should consider before deciding if massage therapy school is the right choice for you.
Do you enjoy working with your hands? Does the idea of working in healthcare intrigue you? What about working in a spa? Or maybe you want to open your own practice?
