Studying acupuncture opens up a whole new world. Not only do you learn a range of highly effective treatment techniques, you also become immersed in the rich traditions of Chinese medicine. These traditions offer a holistic and extremely sophisticated understanding of human beings and how we function in health and in disease. Studying these traditions also stimulates one's own development as a person and as a practitioner.

The Northern College of Acupuncture is one of the foremost educational and research institutions for acupuncture and Chinese medicine in the UK. We have a reputation for academic excellence . This year we have forged a new partnership with UCLan - the University of Central Lancashire and have developed two new professional acupuncture degrees: our BSc in Acupuncuture which allows students without a prior degree to study for £1,345.00 per year with a student loan. Our new MSc is a unique course which combines practitioner training with the challenge of Masters level study.   Our mission is to ensure that all our students turn out as confident pratitioners and our new course's have an even greater emphasis on practical learing and time in our vibrant clinic.

An Exciting Place To Study
Acupuncture is becoming more and more popular as an effective treatment for a wide range of disorders, and also more accepted as an effective treatment by orthodox health practitioners.
The Northern College is an independent educational charity. We have been educating acupuncturists for 20 years- established in 1988 this year has been our 20th anniversary. Students who trained in the early years are now very experienced practitioners, some of whom now teach on the course themselves. The course in York was the first in the United Kingdom to be validated at degree level, by the University of Wales in 1995.

Why Study Acupuncture?
There are many reasons why people choose a career in acupuncture. A large number of our students had already established successful careers in other, completely unrelated fields. Others wished to add to their orthodox medical skills, whilst others studied acupuncture as a first career choice, or began study after raising their families. Their reasons for studying acupuncture include wanting to:
- become an acupuncture practitioner
- work with people
- make a difference to peoples' lives
- earn a living in a way that was true to their own philosophy
- learn more as a direct result of having experienced the benefits of acupuncture treatment
- treat people holistically

The Profession
In the UK, the British Acupuncture Council (the BAcC) is the lead body for professional acupuncturists. It has established Codes of Ethics and Practice to which its members adhere to ensure high standards of patient care. The BAcC also sets high standards for the education of practitioners, and monitors how this is carried out through the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board. Both our acupuncutre courses are fully accredited by the BAAB and validated by our partner college the University of Central Lancashire.
