Choosing the right diet can be overwhelming with so many varied options from which to choose. Their basic guidelines you should follow to get a positive and lasting result. The diet should be both healthy and satisfying so you will feel full, satisfied and no feeling of being denied foods you really desire. With any diet, you select there are ten basic guidelines to follow for positive results.   1. Diet should be healthy and effective   The diet must be both healthy and effective. Is the diet I am choosing to match my eating style in regards to social life, family, special cooking preparations required and can I stick with the diet to see positive results? If you are concerned about one or any of these questions then most likely the diet you are considering is not for you.   2. Does this diet include activities that I can handle and will enjoy?   Does this diet plan include an exercise program that matches my activity level and includes exercises I enjoy? Will I be willing to work up to a higher activity level in order to gain body strength and obtain the weight loss I am striving to reach? Exercise and body conditioning is a must if the diet part of any program is to work to top capacity.   3. Simple enough but something I can stick to?   Is the diet plan simple enough and at the same time broad enough that I can stick with the program and plan for the rest of my life? If you know that there is no way you can do this diet, then it is not right for you. Forever is a long time. If it is the right diet and you don’t feel you are being deprived in any way, then chances are the diet you have selected will give you optimal results.   4. Can I still eat foods I like?   Can I eat the foods I like (some in moderation of course), prepare them in numerous ways and can I afford to buy the food on this diet? Being told you can not ever eat something you dearly enjoy eating is a roadblock to success from the start. The body needs all of the basic food groups in order to function properly and maintain a healthy condition. The key to any consumption of food in moderation. Overindulging in any food is not good or healthy for your body. Too much of a good thing can and is bad for you.   5. How quickly will I lose weight?   How quickly will I lose weight on this diet? Medical research has shown repeatedly that if an individual loses weight too quickly it is not healthy for the body. Losing weight at a slower pace and incorporating an exercise program tends to expend 500 more calories daily. Depending on your food selections for the day and the amount of exercise you include will help to determine how many calories are utilized.   6. Will this diet end my bad eating habits?   Does this diet plan end my bad eating habits? If bad eating habits are replaced with good eating habits and choices then you are on your way to successful weight loss and a healthier lifestyle. On and off eating habits alter your metabolism and tend to slow down the weight loss. A positive direction to choose would be to consult a dietician to help you develop a good eating plan and ways to meet your desired goals.   7. Avoid supplements, cleanses, and detox methods for a “quick” fix   Plan for success with slow gradual changes and a positive attitude. Avoid supplements, cleanses and detox methods. These are not healthy for your body and do not in the long run aid in your diet program. A multi-vitamin is the only supplement to take.
