Nature’s most powerful super-herb

Black seed - also known as Nigella saliva - is considered by many to be the greatest healing herb known to man, but unfortunately it’s remarkable benefits have remained largely unknown  to the majority of the UK population.

The super-herb has been used for centuries in Islamic communities to strengthen the immune system, cleanse the body, purify the blood, protect against irritants and support healthy longevity. In Islam, it is regarded as one of the greatest forms of healing medicine available, as the Prophet Mohammed (whom Muslims believe was the messenger to God) once stated that the black seed can heal every disease - except death.

Other benefits include treating bronchial asthma and bronchitis, rheumatism and related inflammatory diseases, to increase milk production in nursing mothers, to treat digestive disturbances, to support the body's immune system, to promote digestion and elimination, and to fight parasitic infestation. Not only that, it’s oil has also been used to treat more common ailments like skin conditions such as eczema and boils and is used topically to treat cold symptoms.

Susan Clark wrote about the herb in her Sunday Times column ‘Whats the Alternative?’: “I was impressed by this herb (black seed) because, when I was given it to get rid of an intense migraine, it quickly cleared both my congested head and my congested sinuses.”

There really is no end of praise thrown at this annual flowering plant from the buttercup family, which is native to southwest Asia. But is this backed-up by modern day Western Science? Well, the most exciting recent research is by American researchers at the Kimmel Cancer at Jefferson in Philadelphia - who found that thymoquinone, an extract of nigella sativa seed oil, blocked pancreatic cancer cell growth and killed the cells by enhancing the process of programmed cell death. Black Seed Oil reputation regarding it’s potential anti-cancer properties is thankfully starting to spread.

While some stories about black seed oil could be dismissed as mythology, it should be noted that over 200 studies have been carried out at international universities and articles published in various medical journals since 1959 and have all shown remarkable results supporting it’s traditional uses.

It sure beats pumping your body full of Nurofen and Pro Plus doesn’t it?  Before you next go to Boots, consider the natural alternatives available - the results may just surprise you.
