Erik Dalton’s mother used to say, “Erik isn’t happy if his hands aren’t busy.” So the transition from an LA Rock-and Roll drummer with the group “The Flying Burrito Brothers” into a hands-on bodyworker seemed a natural evolution.
Erik Dalton, Ph.D. earned his philosophy and clinical psychology degrees from the University of Oklahoma. An influential seminar by Dr. Ida Rolf in 1972 launched a passionate mind-body adventure that directed Dalton through a series of educational institutions including the Menninger Foundation, Mueller College of Holistic Studies, Michigan State College, and the Rolf Institute of Structural Integration™.
It was after beginning his work as a Certified Rolfer® in the early 80s that Erik saw a need for a more integrative pain management method. Post-graduate workshops with the legendary Philip Greenman at MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine sparked a passion to wed deep tissue, joint mobilization, and the work ofVladimir Janda. After finding this approach enormously successful in relieving his clients’ pain, Dalton decided to share his methods with the rest of the bodywork community.
By 1998, Erik Dalton released one of the industry’s first nationally approved home study courses, titled “Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques.” Surprised by the overwhelming popularity, Dalton founded a teaching facility licensed by the Oklahoma Board of Private Vocational Schools and named it the Freedom From Pain Institute™.
Today, Erik Dalton serves as Executive Director of the Freedom From Pain Institute, a school committed to the research and treatment of chronic pain conditions. Dr. Dalton shares his wide therapeutic background in massage, Rolfing®, and osteopathy in his entertaining continuing education (CE) workshops, home study courses, books, and videos. In addition to his busy teaching and writing endeavors, Erik has maintained a 34-year manual therapy private practice.
His passion for touch therapy is beautifully summed up in a famous old quote by an unknown author that simply states…
The Truly Educated Never Graduate.
Erik Dalton currently resides in Oklahoma City and Santiago, Costa Rica with his wife Teri and two overly optimistic dogs.
