You can get rid of a cold sore quickly and safely with the proven tips revealed here. If you have a big event or date coming up, help is right here.

To effectively get rid of a cold sore, you first need to understand this parasite virus.

The cold sore ulcer is created by the herpes simplex virus. This virus forces your surface cells into becoming actual virus factories. When full, the cells are terminated to release the new clones. This causes that hideous, painful crater.

The great news is the herpes virus is usually hibernating in the nerve ganglia and not bothering anyone. But, it can wake up quickly and start the process of creating new virus when your physical conditions are right. The triggers that cause cold sores are mental and physical stress.

Stress causes changes in your system that will provide the perfect environment for virus replication. The main changes that we need to address today are alkaline to acid shift, using up B and C vitamins and pulling the immune system sentries to another area of your body.

The body can and will get rid of a cold sore without any help from us. But who wants to suffer for 3 to 4 weeks, when we do not need to?

The quicker you can get rid of a cold sore, the sooner you can get on with your life. Here are some tactics that really work.

1. GIVE THE VIRUS A COLD SHOWER. During the first tingling sensation to the swelling up, the virus is in the process of replicating. If you put ice or any cold object on the area, you will slow or possibly stop the virus from going any further. Makes you feel better too.

2. LYSINE LEAVES A BAD TASTE IN THE VIRUS MOUTH. Two amino acids that play a big role in cold sores are lysine and arginine. The virus needs arginine to create new virus. When you take lysine, it removes a lot of the arginine from the cell, making it impossible for the virus to replicate. Normal therapeutic dosage is 2 to 4 grams per day.

3. DESTROY THE EVIL VIRUS. Keep the cold sore clean and kill tons of virus by applying hydrogen peroxide with a cotton ball or swab. It may sting and fizz. It will destroy any virus it touches, and adds a healing dose of oxygen to the wound. Although alcohol will work, this is a better way to get rid of a cold sore.

4. DO NOT BE AN ACID LIP. The cold sore virus loves acid and hates alkaline. Avoid acid foods that may touch the cold sore - like vinegar products and tomatoes. Try to encourage your body toward the alkaline side by taking a good quality vitamin and mineral supplement. The minerals in particular, such as calcium, are critical for this.

Just a couple of final comments I would like to give you that may help you get rid of that cold sore a little faster.

There is not a person that would not benefit from a daily vitamin and mineral regimen. It will not only protect you from cold sores, but other diseases as well. The B and C vitamins help reduce the effects of stress, and the minerals help keep your body alkaline.

One final word on the ice therapy. Use ice prior to the actual cold sore opening up. After that point, use warmth to bring blood to the wound and speed healing.

Without a doubt, there are many more great tactics you can use to help you get rid of a cold sore, but these are well proven and will help you get a quick start.
