4 Tips for Tackling Flu Season Head First

During the flu season, it’s especially important to stay on top of your health so that you can hopefully avoid getting sick. There are certain precautions that you can take to avoid the flu and all the problems that come along with it. These four tips will help you tackle the flu season head first.

Get the Right Vitamins and Nutrients

Certain vitamins and nutrients have the ability to boost your immune system and may keep you from coming down with the flu. Vitamin C can help disease-fighting white blood cells function better, and you can increase your intake by taking supplements or eating more foods like oranges, grapefruit and Brussels sprouts. Zinc may also keep you safe and can be found in foods like mushrooms, chicken and oysters. Taking echinacea supplements is another great way to prevent the flu.

Be Extra Hygienic

You should be extra diligent when it comes to maintaining good hygiene during the flu season so that you can keep germs at bay. The CDCrecommends washing your hands with soap and water regularly or using an alcohol-based hand rub. It’s also a good idea to disinfect objects and surfaces where the flu virus may be lurking. After using a tissue to wipe your nose, promptly toss it in the trash to avoid spreading germs.

Receive the Proper Medical Care

Preventative measures can be taken by a doctor to help ensure good health throughout the season. Getting a flu shot each year is one of the best ways to strengthen your immune system and prevent the flu. Your doctor may recommend taking additional medications if you have a medical condition that puts you at greater risk of getting the flu. If you happen to get sick this season, you can always visit primary care physiciansfor prompt medical care.

Be Cautious with Contact

You should be more cautious about the people and objects that you come into contact with during the flu season to lessen your chances of contracting the virus. It’s best to avoid hugging, kissing or shaking hands with anyone who might be sick. Sharing phones, desks or other office equipment with coworkers should be done so judiciously or avoided altogether if possible. You should consider sanitizing any objects that are shared before using them yourself as an additional precaution.

You don’t have to fall victim to the flu this season. By taking the right steps to stay safe, you can enjoy a sick-free season and possibly avoid further health problems.
