Migraines are defined as a throbbing recurring headache that often affects only one side of the head. They can be accompanied by changes in vision and nausea. If you frequently get migraines, then here are some tips you might want to try to avoid them.
Watch Your Diet
Some people have to be extremely careful about what they eat or they will get a migraine. Try to be very consistent by eating at the same time of day every day. Fasting has been shown to increase the likelihood of a migraine. Many people find it helps to keep a food journal because certain foods may trigger their migraines. Citrus fruits, chocolates and nuts are often contributing factors to headaches.
Control Light
According to TheraSpecs, up to 89 percent of people who have migraines are sensitive to light during an episode. You may also want to change out fluorescent lighting in your home for another option because many report that their flickering can start a migraine. Installing Roman shades may help to block light coming into your environment and help you feel better. These shades can be particularly effective in blocking out glare that may cause a person to develop a migraine. High-contrast lighting has also been shown to be a contributing factor.
Create a Calm Environment
Some people find that they have more migraines when they are experiencing stress. Think about creating a calm environment in your bedroom where you can escape from pressure. Listen to calming music. Spend time unwinding at the end of every day and take time to unplug from social media. Try going to bed and getting up at the same time each day.
Exercise Regularly
People who exercise on a regular basis have fewer migraines. Scientists think that part of the reason is that obesity puts extra stress on the body. Exercise also helps to release endorphins in your body that may help stop migraines. Many people often feel less stress after exercising which may help stop headaches from starting.
Create a Peaceful Lifestyle
People who are at peace with themselves often experience fewer migraines. Spend at least 15 minutes each day doing something that you really enjoy. Break large tasks into manageable chunks and praise yourself when you accomplish each one. Learn to recognize negative thinking in your life so that you can eliminate it. Try a meditation exercise forcing yourself to think about letting stress out of each body part.
For many, having migraines can be a huge hindrance on their life. It can keep them from functioning well in school, work or other areas of their daily life. If that is something that you’re experiencing, please consider the above tips.
