What is Bowen Technique/Therapy

Bowen Therapy, created by Tom Bowen a native Australian during the 1950"s, is a method that involves moves that send signals to the brain reminding it to heal itself. These moves trigger an energy flow of the Autonomic nervous system to generate a response that encourages this self healing. There are numerous moves and each is used for specific areas. Moves are done at the origin, insertion or the belly of the specified muscle. Moves are done around or directly on a joint, other moves stimulate blood circulation within the lymphatic system and fascia. The locations of these moves are similar if not the same to acupressure points and meridians but research shows that Tom Bowen had no training in these areas.

A session with a Bowen therapist will last up to an hour. The therapist will be able to perform the specified moves through loose light clothing. There are no oils used with the Bowen Technique. The therapist will gently use his fingers and thumb to roll muscles, fascia and tissue to stimulate blood flow and increase energy. Between moves the therapist might pause to allow the patients body the opportunity to readjust and re-connect.

The Bowen technique can offer relief to many people especially those who have been suffering with chronic pain for years and have yet to find a therpy that offers true, lasting relief. The Bowen Technique is very safe, with quick results and can be deeply relaxing.

If you have tried several different medical routes in search of relief perhaps a visit to a Bowen Therapist might bring relief and the holistic healing that you are looking for.
