Science has shown how a healthy lifestyle can decrease a person's physical problems as well as extend their life. A person's health is influenced by their daily habits. It's important for people to have a regular routine of healthy behavior as part of their everyday life.

Healthy Weight

It's essential a person develop a routine of eating properly. They need to listen to their bodies. It will tell them when they need to eat as well as how certain foods and amounts of food are affecting them. When a person is overweight, they have an increased risk of everything from heart attacks and strokes to high blood pressure and heart disease. Obesity can also cause a person to experience sleep disorders, depression, back pain, increased risk of cancers and more.

Positive Attitude

The Mayo Clinic has done a number of studies on aging. They've found there is a number of health benefits for people who have a positive attitude about their life and themselves. These benefits include decreased risks for cardiovascular disease, better ability to fight disease. Individuals with a positive attitude also experience lower rates of depression, accidents, increased longevity and more.

Brushing Teeth

Regular brushing of the teeth can decrease chances of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) as well as pneumonia and more. The cause of these conditions is bacteria getting into a person's lower respiratory tract. When bacteria from plaque builds up around a person's teeth, they are at risk of developing periodontal disease. For instance, seeing a highly rated dentist in South Jordan regularly can help prevent this. The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) published a study that showed a correlation between periodontal disease and developing respiratory health issues. Regularly brushing teeth decreases the chance of a person developing periodontal disease and a number of other health related problems.

Spend Time with Friends

There was a study performed by Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. It tracked the behavior of over 2,900 people over the age of 64. The study tracked their lives for approximately 13 years. It showed that people who spent more time being social with their friends had significantly lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels when compared to those who did not. Researchers estimate that regular social engagements add to a person's health almost as much as taking measures to live a healthy lifestyle.

Helping People

Research conducted by York University asked participants to be helpful or considerate to another person for several minutes each day. Participants claimed to experience improved self-esteem as well as happiness after doing this for six months. The results for the control group was much lower. Other studies have shown that people who regularly help others have better health than individuals who do not. Researchers believe doing volunteer work will help seniors as well as others to live longer and be healthier.

Sufficient Sleep

When people don't get enough sleep, it can do more than just make them feel tired in the morning. It can cause a weakening of their immune system. This can result in depression, an increased risk of developing cancer and more. Everyone should try to get seven or more hours of sleep each night. If this is a struggle, a person should talk about it with their physician.
