To maintain a healthy smile, it’s important to visit a dentist regularly. In the past, people would only visit dentists to get problems in their teeth fixed. However, it’snow possible to prevent many teeth problems from occurring, meaning that a visit to the dentist can help tokeep your teeth healthy. Even if you practice excellent dental hygiene at home and feel that your teeth and gums are in good shape, it’s still important to schedule regular visits to a dentist. This is because a dentist will be able to check for problems that you may not be aware of. The question then becomes how regularly to schedule your visit to a dentist in Bundoora. Here are some pointers to help you out.

Schedule a Visit at Least Twice a Year

To prevent cavities and gum disease, it’s recommended that you visit a dentist twice a year. However, this should be considered as a recommendation, since people can have different medical conditions, oral hygiene levels and habits. A reason why 6 monthly appointments are highly recommended is that some dental problems may not cause pain or be visible until they’re at an advanced stage. Such dental problems that a dentist will be able to identify earlycan include cavities, oral cancer and gum disease. Identifying these dental issues early means they can be treated while they’re still manageable.

Schedule Regular Visits if You Have a High Risk of Dental Problems

Depending on the individual, there are some people who are at higher risk of developing dental problems. Some of these high risk groups include:

·         Pregnant women

·         Smokers

·         People with diabetes

·         Individuals with weak immune responses

·         People who regularly get cavities

If you belong to such a high risk group, visiting a dentist in Bundoora twice a year may not be sufficient. It’s therefore highly recommended that you schedule visits 3 or 4 times a year. Furthermore, there are times when you may need to see a dentist more often, such as when you have an illness. A dentist will be able to treat changes which may occur in your mouth, or help you to fight off temporary oral infections.

Discuss Your Visits with Your Dentist

Since everybody is different, some people may require more dental care than others. This is why it’s important to discuss your treatment schedule and options with your dentist. In addition, the times you visit your dentist will also change depending on factors such as your age and how well you take care of your teeth, among other factors. You may also be required to visit your dentist regularly for follow up appointments if you’ve had some sort of dental work done.

Visit a Dentist When You Notice a Change in Your Dental Health

In addition to your regular visits, it’s recommended that you schedule an appointment with your dentist in Bundoorawhen you notice any changes in your dental health. Such changes may include swollen gums, bleeding gums, sensitivity to hot or cold substances or persistent tooth pain. This will not only ensure the dentist can get to the root of the problem, but also prevent the condition from becoming unmanageable in the future.
