If you happen to be taking care of a bedridden patient, you will need to ensure that you do everything possible to make sure that they get a full and speedy recovery. While the majority of the healing process and time will depend upon their body chemistry and general health conditions, there are definitely certain things that you could do to help speed up this process and help them through it. Here are some ways in which you can help a bedridden patient recover.
Keep Them Clean
The best and first step that you need to ensure is that they are kept clean at all times. You will be able to avoid a lot of unpleasant complications like bedsores if you keep the patients clean and well looked after while also moving them around a bit so that they do not put pressure on certain areas of their body all the time. If they cannot be taken inside a washroom, give them a daily sponge bath and dress them in freshly laundered clothing. Use moisturizers, talc or perfume or even a bit of baby cologne if it helps them feel better and will not have any adverse effects on their health.
Have All the Medical Equipment You Need
The next step is to have all the medical equipment that you need at hand. These include oxygen tanks, masks, gloves, or acapella to help the movement of fluids and anything else that the doctor recommends that you have should have if needed. Make sure to clean everything after they are used and to dispose of any medical waste in a sanitary manner as well.
Look Out For Red Alerts
Keep a careful track of the vitals of the patient and keep an eye out for any red alerts that you may come across. In the same way, look out for any complications that can arise from the fact that they are bedridden. If the patient will be immobile for a long period of time, make sure that they wear compression stockings to help relieve any DVT that could be a possibility. If they are alright physically, look at signs that might be warnings of depression and the likes because of the condition that they are in. if you happen to see any indications of anything that is not normal or right, get the professional help that you need.
Help Them Stay Happy
We all know that the negative condition a person’s mind is something that is really detrimental to their health. No matter what kind of treatment you give them medically if they are unhappy about themselves and feel guilty for having to lean on you for help, they will not recover soon. Therefore, one of the biggest methods in which you can help them is by ensuring that they are always happy as much as possible. You will also need to give them strength and support to get them through this time of hardship.
