Piles are nothing but swollen veins around the anus. Your food pipe begins from your mouth and ends at your anus. The last part of your food pipe is known as the large intestine. When the veins situated at the lower part of the rectum gets swollen is called piles or hemorrhoid and this is known as internal piles. When the veins get swollen at the anal region under the skin then it’s called external piles. Swelling occurs if there is an increase in pressure in the veins that causes the veins to swell up. The symptoms of piles occur because there is an increase in the pressure in the veins which are situated in the anal region. You will have a hard stool or constipation problem if you are not taking fiber foods.

The common symptoms of piles are:

  • Bleeding: The delicate small veins which are present in the rectum and anus region can bleed by tearing if there is increased pressure inside the vein due to staring at stool. When you pass the hard stool, it tears the delicate thin lining of the veins present in the rectum and anal region which causes the bleeding.
  • Pain during and after stool: The pain occurs if there is an inflammatory condition developed in venous areas that causes the vein to swell up. The swelled veins itself won’t initiate the pain as there are no fibers attached to it but the swelled vein initiates muscle spasm around it the veins that cause pain especially the piles which protrude out.
  • Anal itching: The inflamed hemorrhoids can leak the mucus that can cause inflammation of the skin surrounding the anus causing burning and itching.
