Under the Weather? A Short Guide to Improving Your Wellness

If you aren’t feeling your best, then it is time to improve your overall wellness. When you are a young adult, you may need to take care of your health on your own for the first time in your life. Use these methods to feel better right away.

Drink a Lot of Fluids

When you have nausea or diarrhea, it is important to drink more fluids in order to remain hydrated. In addition to drinking water, you can have fruit juices, sport drinks or herbal teas. It is better to avoid beverages such as coffee or soft drinks because caffeine consumption increases urination. You can also have hot chicken broth that contains essential nutrients to maintain your energy levels.

Stay Home and Rest

If you aren’t feeling well, then it is important to stay home and rest more. While naps are normally a bad idea because it disrupts your circadian rhythms, when you are feverish or sluggish, it is a good idea to sleep more. If you have a bad cold or influenza, then you can relax at home while reading books or watching DVDs. The average adult requires seven to nine hours of sleep each night, but when you are ill, it is okay to sleep 10 hours or more.

Eat a Healthier Diet

When you are often ill, it is possible that your immune system is overwhelmed because you aren’t eating a healthy diet. If you never learned how to cook nutritious meals, then you must find a book that teaches you how to prepare well-rounded recipes. It is vital to eat several servings of fruits or vegetables each day, and these foods are easy to prepare. You can also eat lean proteins such as chicken breast or salmon along with low-fat dairy products and whole-grain foods.

Take Dietary Supplements

When you have food allergies or sensitivities, it is difficult to get enough nutrients. Fortunately, you can find an assortment of dietary supplements at local drugstores. You might need to take a calcium, iron or vitamin D supplement, but you can also find multivitamins that contain several nutrients. In addition to everyday vitamins and minerals, you can also find supplements that contain antioxidants or probiotics.

Visit an Urgent Care Center

If you continue to feel ill for several days, then you must visit a clinic like Premier Urgent Care Centers of California, Inc.or somewhere similar where you don’t need an appointment. A physician can examine you to determine if you need antibiotics or other prescription medications. When you have a severe illness, an urgent care center can transfer you to a hospital’s emergency room. Urgent care centers are also great places to update your childhood immunizations or to get a yearly influenza shot.
