What Is Hair Loss
When an individual suffers from loss of hair on the head or body this is known as hair loss, baldness, or alopecia. Hair loss usually involves hair on the head and it also varies in its severity. Hair loss can occur on a large part of the body or just on a very small area. Some individuals may not know how to handle hair loss and become so worried about their physical appearance that it can lead to psychological distress. There are currently three different types of hair losses and they are alopecia areata, female pattern hair loss, and male pattern hair loss. Men usually have hair loss because of their genetics and male hormone imbalances. There is no cause medically that is known to man on why females experience hair loss. Alopecia areata hair loss is caused by an autoimmune disorder.
How Does Baldness Happen
The way that baldness usually occurs in men is not overnight. It is a long-term process that can take up to years or even decades before the man experiences baldness. There are plenty of early signs of balding that men should look out for. One of the first and most obvious signs of balding is when an individual's hairline starts to change and you can clearly notice this hairline change when looking in the mirror or at photos. The loss of hair is never abrupt, thinning is the first thing that you will notice and then the hairline will start to recede more and more. Men should always pay attention to their hair on their entire head. The reason why is because sometimes thinning or balding can bypass the hairline and affect the crown of the head. Not all individuals go bald from the hairline some people experience something called diffuse thinning. The type of hair loss that causes alopecia around the entire scalp or the crown of the head is the official definition of diffuse thinning.
If you are looking to spot and see if you are experiencing diffuse thinning you can use the same method as you used to spot if you are experiencing a receding hairline. This method is just taking a photo of yourself and comparing it to a past photo. You will clearly be able to see the difference in the two photos when they are side by side. If you suspect that you are balding or experiencing diffuse thinning you should consistently taking photos of your hair every two months so you can compare and see if the hair loss is truly occurring. Another sign that you are experiencing hair loss is if you lose hair when showering, brushing, or combing. Men should also take into consideration there are going to be some hair loss during a shower it is natural. So they should not be alarmed if they are washing their hair and a few hairs are found in the palm of their hands.
How To Prevent Hair Loss
There are primarily two ways to prevent hair loss and it is by using foams and lotions or taking a subscribe medication which comes in a pill form. There is a product on the market that is called minoxidil and this product is known for helping to prevent hair loss. It is also preferred for men who do not want to take a pill because it comes in a foam or lotion form. You will use this product twice a day and a prescription is not needed. The way that minoxidil works is that it stimulates hair growth and enlarged hair follicles. It has been reported that at least seven out of ten men who take the product report they have regrown hair within 4 months. The most effective pill to prevent hair loss is finasteride. What this pill does is blocks the enzyme that creates dihydrotestosterone. The reason why this hormone needs to be blocked for being created is because it is the hormone that causes male pattern baldness. So the men who take finasteride usually experience hair regrowth because the balding factor has been stopped.
