How To Stay Healthy As You Age

Aging can be stressful, but for some people, it is the most rewarding time of their life. As you age you might feel more confident than ever before, having gained patience and wisdom. You can grow older with your body and mind and enjoy this feeling.

Eat Whole Foods and Walking

Eating whole foods is proven to protect you against diseases such as cancer, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and heart disease. You should eat less butter, salt, sugar, fatty meats, and packaged foods. These foods have been believed by researchers to physically change parts of chromosomes linked to age-related diseases. Walking for just 30 minutes every day has a huge impact on your health. It delivers more blood and oxygen to your brain which helps keep brain cells healthy. Walking also helps you sleep better, boosts your mood, keeps muscles and bones strong, controls your weight and delays or prevents your chances of developing diseases.

Supplements and Alternative Methods

If you are trying to lose weight, there are quite a few different, alternative methods.  Anywhere from different supplements, to diet management systems. Whatever you’re going to choose, make sure to research it, and get a feel for how it works, and reviews are a great place to start.  An example of a supplement and their reviews is Le-vel Thrive, and their Thrive Reviews.  These different ways of staying healthy can be effective and make staying healthy easier.

Staying Connected

To maintain physical and mental health, it is important to stay connected with friends and family. People who engage in social interaction tend to be more healthy than people who don't. social interactions bring upon feelings of positivity and it also eliminates stress. If a Senior is more socially active, they will have lower rates of developing Alzheimer's. You can remain social by participating in group activities, getting out of the house to eat or take a walk with a friend. You can also participate in a group exercise class to get yourself in shape while interacting with others. The more lonely you are, the more likely you are to develop depression and dementia. Seniors who reported feeling isolated have more difficulty with everyday tasks and tend to die earlier than seniors who were less-lonely. Lonely people also tend to have inflammation caused by high levels of stress and this can be linked to diabetes and arthritis. Volunteer work, making friends or helping someone in need are all ways you can stay connected.

Regular Exercise

Exercising can help you maintain a healthy weight, lower blood pressure and decrease the risk of heart disease. It can also decrease shortness of breath, decreases fatigue, and gives you an energy boost so that you can be productive every day. Exercising also helps improve the quality of life and it can prevent heart changes that may occur with age like insulin sensitivity, and arrhythmias. You can start exercising by taking part in physical activity such as jogging and running every week. If this is too much you can start off with walking to increase your heart rate. Strength exercises such as leg lifts, push-ups, planks, squats, and lunges are all great exercises to do to increase muscle mass and strengthen the muscles. This can also allow you to have longer-lasting blood pressure control. A Chinese exercise known as Tai Chi combines deep breathing and slow movements. It is a great form of meditation and can help you avoid falls.

Minimizing stress and getting enough sleep is one of the best ways you can maintain your health as you age. There are so many ways to stay healthy as you age whether its eating right, exercising, or traveling, you can be on your way to living a healthier lifestyle.
