Keeping active is important to stay healthy and to enjoy your body knowing that it is strong and fit. However, exercise can be dangerous when done incorrectly. Do you ever notice that you have a stiff neck or lower back pain after working out? Here are some ways to avoid neck and back injuries while exercising.

Be aware of your posture

This is the first and most important tip. Concentrate on your posture as you move. Are you straining anything? Are you too hunched over? You should be relaxed and natural, yet keep your back straight and your stomach tucked in as you exercise. Try watching yourself in a mirror so you can see your form and catch any poor posture.

Keep your chin tucked

It is the easiest to strain your neck while doing ab exercises or lifting weights. Be careful not to stretch forward with your neck or use your neck strength to pull up. Keep your chin tilted toward your chest so that the strain is evenly distributed down your spine.

Never lift with your back bent forward

Practice good lifting techniques. Keep your back straight as you lean forward, bend your knees slightly, hold the object close to your chest as you straighten up, and engage your lower core muscles to aid you.

Watch the proper way to perform each exercise

Before you begin a new exercise, rather than simply reading how to perform it, watch it being demonstrated by a professional. There are many workout apps and videos available online with instructions on how to execute each move as well as tips on how to protect yourself from injury. Even simple exercises could be dangerous if they are not done correctly.

Your core muscles and your spinal cord are the center of movement and control for your entire body. A small back injury that starts with discomfort could spiral downward and become a source of major pain, limited movement, and overall degenerating health. If you do notice pain after your workouts, practice these tips. You can find more at this site. If you have already been injured or believe you have a more serious problem, look into spine rehabilitation, a therapy program with exercises especially for those with spinal injuries.

Remember that exercise is one of the best things you can do for your health, but it must be done safely to be beneficial.
