For both men and women, eating disorders can be extremely debilitating and lead to health issues down the road. Some people may want help but aren't sure how to recover from the disease and regain their life. If you are interested in receiving help, there are a few signs that you're a candidate for rehab.

1. Excessive Exercising

You may find yourself visiting the gym once or twice a day and spending several hours exercising and counting your calories. You may never feel satisfied with the amount of time that you work out and can begin to weigh yourself several times a day.

2. Malnourishment

Brittle nails, hair loss, and sunken facial features are all signs of malnourishment due to anorexia or bulimia. Women are prone to having irregular periods or complete loss of their menstruation. It's also common to feel fatigued throughout the day or dizzy due to a lack of nutrients, which is a sign to enroll in a facility like Reasons Eating Disorder Center.

Other common symptoms include a change in sleep patterns, a low pulse and blood pressure, gray skin, chapped lips, fainting spells, dental erosions, upper respiratory infections, and chronic constipation.

3. Obsession with Nutritional Content

It can be easy to find yourself checking the labels on food packages before you put anything in your mouth. Those who suffer from eating disorders can become obsessed with searching out low-fat foods or the latest diet on the Internet. They may also talk continuously about food or dieting and categorize foods as good or bad.

4. Mood Fluctuations

Eating disorders can often lead to extreme mood fluctuations due to changes that are occurring in the body. It can be easy to feel joyous and happy one minute before becoming irritable or angry. You may also lose interest in socializing or participating in activities that you once enjoyed.

5. Fear of Eating in Public

Eating disorders are commonly associated with a fear of eating in public due to body image issues. You can feel shy about eating with other people around because you may feel judged or as if everyone is staring at you.

When you want to overcome an eating disorder, it's important to recognize the signs to determine if you need treatment. With professional help, you can improve your body image and avoid having a fear of food to improve your health and well-being over time.
