If you've always wanted to know how to restore your smile to the way it looked when you were younger, read on. Of course, we know that everyone wants to have the perfect smile, and here are some ways that you can keep your teeth (and mouth) healthy for the long haul.
1. Eat well
Eating habits are a huge cause of loss of dental hygiene, and in today's world, we see more offerings in the areas of sugar and hard candy that are, ultimately, bad for your teeth. Be sure that you talk to someone, or read up on, the best diet for you, one that will help you avoid the wrong foods and keep your teeth healthy. And, above all, be sure that you brush your teeth at least twice a day, and hopefully after each meal. A nutritionist can talk to you more about which foods are safe for you.
2. Floss your teeth
According to dentists in Salt Lake City at South Temple Dental, bacteria can easily get into your mouth if you're not flossing, so make sure that you do this. Not many people can get away with just brushing, so you'll want to make sure you floss after each meal, and carry a container of floss with you for when you eat out. And be sure that you floss well, and not just a few teeth, but all of them. Trust us, it's worth it.
3. Use mouthwash
If you often get tooth decay or bad breath after you eat, then carry mouthwash with you to eat out, and use it liberally at home. You can find a good fluoride mouthwash at your local grocery store or drug store, and this is sure to help keep your teeth looking and feeling as clean as they have in a long time. Be sure you swish it around really liberally, and always sanitize the cup you use afterward by putting it in the dishwasher and running it.
4. Chew gum
If you're unable to do any of the aforementioned things after you eat, due to place or other constraints, then try buying some chewing gum especially made for you to chew after you eat. Try, if you can, to avoid the high-sugar gums that make your teeth and gums decay faster, and go for one that has been made to chew after your meal. Trust us, you'll love the difference, and your teeth will, too. These gums are both inexpensive and convenient and can help you if you are in a pinch for time.
5. See your dentist
It's important to check in with your dentist at least twice a year, if you can. Don't be afraid to ask her about products formulated for tooth cleaning, tooth bleaching, and tooth whitening, all of which can make your teeth look better for longer. If you don't see your dentist, how will you know what is going on beneath the surface? She can also take X-rays of your mouth to make sure that your teeth are in good shape all the way down. If you need to buy dental insurance, it is relatively inexpensive for a monthly plan, and you should be able to get many of your dentist's services covered for you and your family.
As you can see, there are some concrete paths you can take to make sure your teeth look and feel as good as they ever have, all for a minimal cost, and most of them will keep you looking better for longer. If you have any other questions, be sure to be in touch. We can help you with your dental needs.
