Dealing with Anorexia: 5 Signs You Need Rehab

Anorexia is one of the eating disorders that can just sneak up on you. One day, you’re eating salads to try and lose 10 pounds and the next you could be surviving on mints for days at a time. If you have any of these signs, you probably need treatment for anorexia.

You Obsess over Food

If you can’t stop thinking about food, you might have a problem with it. If you’re constantly tracking your meals, thinking about what you’re going to eat and never thinking about anything else, you might have a problem. There is a difference in dieting and obsessing over food, but thinking about it all the time is generally a problem.

You Don’t Care about Anything

Apathy is one of the top things the Anorexia treatment centers by Center for Change see in their patients. If you don’t care about anything or you notice nothing makes you happy, you may have an eating disorder. Apathy can also be a result of reduced energy since you’re not getting the nutrition you need to give you energy.

Friends Haven’t Seen You in a While

Avoiding social situations is one of the first signs of anorexia. If you haven’t seen your friends in some time, you might need to think about whether you have a problem or not. Consider talking to your friends to get their feedback on when they last saw you and what you were doing when they saw you.

Hair Is Falling Out or Growing

You may have noticed your hair is falling out. This is one of the signs of severe anorexia. Another sign of severe anorexia is growing hair in places you shouldn’t. Those who have noticed hair growth have seen in on the tops of the feet, lower back and even on their hands.

You Can’t Sleep

If you are starving yourself, you will have hunger cues. These will prevent you from sleeping. Insomnia is another symptom of anorexia. If you are not getting enough to eat and you are not sleeping well, you will further increase your chances of death or serious complications from the disease.

Getting treatment can be scary, but it is important to know you can live a healthy life where you feel good about yourself. Recognize the symptoms to help yourself get the treatment you need. If you can recognize the symptoms, there is a chance you can get better from the disease through rehab.
