Endometriosis and Tanacetum Parthenium (Feverfew)

As we mentioned in previous articles, endometriosis growing somewhere else other than the endometrium also reacts to hormonal signals of the monthly menstrual cycle by building up tissue, breaking it, and eliminating it through the menstrual period. As we know, herbs play a very important role in some cultures in treating all kinds of diseases. In this article, we will discuss how tanacetum parthenium (feverfew) helps to treat endometriosis.

I. Definition
Tanacetum parthenium is also known as feverfrew. It grows into a small bush up to around 18 inches high, with citrus-scented leaves. It has been used in traditional medicine in treating fever and arthritis.

II. How Tanacetum parthenium effects endometriosis
1. Menstrual cramps
Over-production of the prostaglandins hormone causes overactive uterine muscles leading to abdominal pain. Tanacetum parthenium contains substances that help to inhibit the prostaglandins hormone resulting in calming the uterine muscles and reducing endometrial cramps.

2. Nervous system
It also helps to inhibit the levels of serotorim which plays an important role as a neurotransmitter in the modulation of the nervous system such as anger, aggression, mood swings, and sexuality. With the right levels of serotoim, it helps to reduce the tension of the nervous system that causes symptoms of anxiety and depression in endometriosis.

3. Liver regeneration
Besides having an impact on the system mentioned above, tanacetium parthenium also plays an important role for liver regeneration by controlling the levels of serotorin. Since a strong liver helps in fat and protein metabolism, it results in reducing the levels of bad cholesterol in the blood stream and providing the hormone balancing function during menstrual cycle.

4. Digestive system
It is said that tanacetum parthenium also helps to improve the function of digestive absorption of vitamins and minerals that is vital for women with endometriosis, because most of them are found to have some kind of vitamin and mineral deficiency during menstrual cycle.

5. Cell division
Tanacetium parthenium also helps to regulate the cell growth in the body which prevents the risk of cell abnormality such as cells in the peritoneum developing into endometrial cells.
