As we mentioned in previous article, Premenstrual syndrome effects over 70% to 90% of women before menopause in the US and less for women in Southeast Asia because of their difference in living style and social structure. The occurrence of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) have more than doubled over the past 50 years due to the acceptance of it as a medical condition that is caused by unhealthy diet with high in saturated food. Premenstrual syndrome is defined as faulty function of the ovaries related to the women's menstrual cycle, it effects a women's physical and emotional state, and sometimes interferes with daily activities as a result of hormone fluctuation. The syndrome occurs one to two weeks before menstruation and then declines when the period starts. In this article, we will discuss how eggplant effects women with premenstrual syndrome.


I. Definition
Eggplant is a plant belongs to the family Solanaceae, native to Sri Lanka and India. It has been used in traditional medicine in improving kidney function and sexual libido for men and women alike.


II. How eggplant helps to treat women with PMS
1.Water retention
Traditional Chinese herbalist believe, kidney besides plays an important role in sexual desire and activity for women and men alike, it also helps to regulating the body fluid. Unbalancing yin and yang qi or blood stagnation in the kidney organ causes over active or abnormal function not only in regulating the urinary secretion but also interfering the sexual function.

Eggplant also contains antioxidant which helps to reduce the risk of cells oxidation resulting in lessening the risk of inflammation of the reproductive organs and forming of free radical. It also protect our body against infection caused by bacteria and virus.

3. Cholesterol
Eggplant contains chemical agents act as satin which help to inhibit the HMG-CoA reductase enzyme in the liver thereby, lessening the bad cholesterol synthesis and increasing the blood circulation which is vital for the cells in the nervous system needs and reducing the symptoms of dizziness, loss of concentration and memory.

4. Vitamins and minerals
Eggplant contains high amount of vitamins and minerals including vitamin C, B complex, Magnesium and potassium which is vital for protecting our body against water retention, weight gain and assisting the nervous cells in neutrotransmitting information between themselves and glands. The folate is also helps the body in regulating cells duplication and growth.

5. Nicotinoid
Eggplant contains high amount of nicotinoid, regularly intake of small portion of eggplant helps to improve the function of cells in the nervous system in transmitting information resulting in increasing the feeling of relaxation, calmness and alertness. It also helps to curve appetite, thereby, reducing weight gain. Remember, nicotioid is highly addictive.
