I. Definition
Bupleurum also known as Bei Chai Hu, is a very large genus of plants and belongs to the family Apiaceae (Umbelliferae). It has used in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years in treating infections with fever and liver problems.

1. Liver qi stagnation
The herb is said to have a liver tonic effect that helps to release liver qi stagnation as resulting of accumulating toxins over whelming the body, leading to abnormal function of liver in regulating the spleen function in insulin production resulting in hormone imbalance and irregular menstrual cycle. 5. Spleen function
