4 Resources to Free Yourself From Addiction

The path to sobriety is always going to be difficult, but there are a few steps that you can take to make this process a little bit easier on yourself and your loved ones. With a good support system and some professional assistance, you will put yourself in the best possible position to break your addiction.

Hotlines

When it comes time to quit, calling a hotline is a great start. Those who work and volunteer at those hotlines know just how difficult it can be to treat an addiction, and they will connect you to a wide variety of useful services and specialists. As an added bonus, many addiction hotlines are completely free of charge, and you won’t have to worry about paying them out of your own pocket or notifying your insurance provider.

Friends and Family Members

After you have decided that you are finally ready to break the addiction cycle, you will most likely need to broach the subject with your loved ones. If the addiction has controlled your life for quite some time, then your loved ones might be ready to help you right away. Before you reach out to any of your loved ones, you must make sure that they are going to be supportive and helpful. Getting turned away or shunned could trigger a relapse, and that type of situation must be avoided at all costs.

Support Groups

Your friends and family members are probably going to be vital to your recovery, but you need to speak with others who have similar experiences as well. Practically every major town and city has at least one support group that was created for substance abusers, and almost all of those groups are free to join. At the meetings, you might hear other peoples’ experiences or be connected to a sponsor who can help you along the way.

Treatment Centers

In order to permanently overcome your addiction, you must uncover the root causes of your disease, and that can be done during a residential inpatient program. For a short period of time, you might benefit from heading to an inpatient center that is filled with addiction and recovery specialists as well as other addicts. Those programs often include services such as detox, physical stabilization, personal counseling, and group therapy.

Even with world-class support, overcoming an addiction is still going to be a challenge, and relapses can occur at any time. While relapsing might feel as if you have failed, it is important to remember that it is nothing more than a single roadblock in a much longer journey.
