Head Always Hurting? How to Ease Your Migraine Pain

A migraine can often make it seem like you aren't able to function during the day. They can come on strong and out of nowhere. Before you can treat a migraine completely, you need to figure out what's causing them in the first place. Fortunately, there are a few ways to ease the pain of your headaches until you do discover the underlying problem.

Rest in Darkness

For many people, sitting in a dark and quiet room can often relieve the pain from a migraine. Create a dark space by closing the curtains or blinds on the windows and turning the lights off. The best place to create your dark room would probably be a bedroom with a comfortable bed for you to lay down on. Make sure to turn off all music, electronic devices, etc. so that you can have the peace and quitet that you need in order to help ease the pain.

Seek Professional Treatment

At times, going to see a chiropractor can help alleviate your migraines and even keep them at bay for long periods of time, if not permanently. When there is tension in the neck or issues with the muscles and the spinal cord, it can travel to the brain, which results in a migraine. A typical visit to a professional, such as one from the Hiler Chiropractic and Vax-D Decompression Center, will often include some type of spinal manipulation or even mild shock therapy. Once the spine is aligned and the tension in the neck and back is gone, then you'll begin to see that the headaches will go away as well.

Smell Soothing Scents

There are a few scents that you can put around the house that can help with migraines. Lavender is at the top of the list as it just gives a delightful aroma that helps to relax the mind and the body. You can enjoy lavender tea or put lavender petals in your bath water before going to bed. Peppermint is another scent that can relax the mind, taking away the pain of a migraine.

Exercise Regularly

Although it might be a bit difficult when you have a headache, exercise at least every other day releases endorphins through the body. These aid in elevating the mood, which can decrease your stress level. If you're not as stressed, then you usually won't see as many headaches during the day. Exercise also helps to increase the blood flow in the body, which is a benefit for the brain to keep it healthy and alert.

Don't let a migraine take you out of commission. Until you're able to figure out what triggers the headaches, you can soothe the pain so that life is manageable. Once you find something that works, stick with it so that you can put a stop to the pain before it begins.
