If you’re the type of person who often has frantic mornings that end with you rushing out the door, breakfast may be one of those things you gloss over. That’s a mistake, though, because a good breakfast is important and you don’t need to spend much time making one. Here are three easy ways to make a healthy breakfast that you can take with you out the door.
Go for Protein and Fiber Over Sugar
The problem with many breakfast options is that they’re loaded with sugar. Just look at the most popular cereals as an example. For your breakfast, choose foods with high protein and fiber content, such as eggs, whole-wheat English muffins or bread, and granola. These will provide more lasting energy instead of that quick sugar rush.
When you have a few key ingredients, figure out how you can make a portable meal with them. Eggs may be hard to eat on the road, but not if put them in a tortilla and wrap that in foil for a breakfast burrito. Put granola in a paper or plastic cup and all you need is a spoon. There are plenty of ways to get healthy meals ready in under five minutes.
Add Fruit
Fruit is the easiest way to bolster your breakfast, whether you just need a little more food so that you’ll be full or you want to add some nutrients. The benefit with fruit is how portable it is. You could grab a banana, an apple or an orange and be on your way. Or, you can sprinkle berries into an existing meal. Half a cup of blueberries or raspberries will go great with granola or oatmeal.
Don’t Forget the Java
Coffee has quite a few health benefits. It boosts your energy levels and can improve your performance physically and mentally, plus it has many important nutrients. Making a whole pot of coffee takes time, though, and it could be a waste if you just need one cup. With single-serve coffee cups, your coffee will be ready much faster than if you brewed a pot. All you need to do is pour it into a thermos and go.
The secret to a successful out-the-door breakfast is proper planning. You don’t want to get in your kitchen and wonder what you should make. Figure out breakfast the night before and you’ll have no trouble preparing it in the morning.
