Teenage Acne? 3 Tips For Clearer Skin

When your teenager looks in the mirror, they may feel self-conscious about a few things. There could be blemishes that are unappealing to your teen that they want to hide or get rid of but with no success after trying various methods. If you follow a few tips and tricks, you can help your teen get the clear skin that is desired with little effort and without spending a lot of money.

Clean Daily

Encourage your teen to clean the skin each day. Your teen should not scrub the face. Instead, use warm water that is splashed on the face with a mild soap. Avoid using hot water because it can dry out the skin and cause redness. You can get cleansers for all skin types at most retail stores. Products with shea butter, vitamin E or natural oils are often best for the face because they will help moisturize the skin instead of removing the oils that are present that you want to be left behind. If your teen’s skin is very oily or if your teen is active, then you want to encourage washing twice a day.

Visit A Doctor

If products that you get over the counter don’t work, then you might want to consider talking to a doctor, like the professionals at Rural Health Services Consortium Inc. They will know of products that are best for the skin and that are safe to use instead of prescribing a product that might cause a rash or redness. There are some oral medications that your doctor can prescribe that will treat acne from the inside of the body to the outer layers of the skin. These medications might work better than a topical product and are usually easier to use.

Stay Away From The Face

In order to keep the skin as clean as possible, you need to encourage your teen to keep hands away from the face as well as products that are used on the hair. When using hairspray or other products, make sure they are pointed away from the face. Your teen should avoid holding the chin in the palm of the hand and sharing makeup with others. If the hands are going to touch the face, then they should be as clean as possible to prevent the transfer of oils and dirt.

Your teen may be incredibly conscious of their image and how they feel about their appearance. Acne be a reason for low self-esteem. Offer encouragement about cleaning and ways to keep the face clean instead of being harsh about the situation as it sometimes can’t be controlled.
