How Buying a Home Can Change Your Health for Better or Worse

When many people think about buying a new home, they think about living in a stylish, spacious environment. They may be excited about the ability to decorate the home as desired and even to have a great area to entertain family and friends. It is easy to overlook the impact that your new home may have on your health, but this is a legitimate and important factor to consider when choosing real estate agent services. These are a few of the ways that your new home selection can affect your health in the years ahead.

Access to Parks and Recreational Areas

When you live close to parks and other outdoor recreational areas, you may be more inclined to take a walk or a jog regularly. These may be areas where you play basketball or toss a Frisbee with a few friends from time to time. On the other hand, when these venues are located far away, you may be more inclined to simply sit around the house than to go outdoors and be active. Some suburban communities have their own private amenities, including hiking trails and swimming pools. Otherwise, there may be city parks nearby.

A Location Close to Your Workplace

Another factor to consider is the proximity of your new home to your workplace. If you live within a few miles of your workplace, you may be more inclined to walk or bike to work when the weather is nice than to hop in the car. When you choose to live many miles away, getting exercise on your way to work may be impractical.

A Dedicated Workout Space

The actual layout of the home as well as its features may also impact your health. For example, some homes have a spare room that can easily be transformed into a private gym. There may be a large pool in the backyard that gives you a convenient area to swim laps regularly. Other homes may be too cramped to allow for even a treadmill or space to do workout to exercise programs on TV.

Keep in mind that these are only some of the many ways that your selection of a new home may affect your health. In addition to enabling or detracting from your ability to get exercise, your new home’s indoor air quality, cooking features and more can affect your health in various ways. As you work with your real estate agent to select a new home, keep these important factors in mind so that you can stay as healthy as possible going forward.
