4 Tips to Help Your Teeth Heal From Decay

Toothaches and dentist visits seem to be top on the list of things most people do not want to have to deal with. Tooth decay is the result of bacteria action which causes a decaying process to the outer layer of the tooth. There are several ways that you can help your teeth heal from decay and avoid unnecessary tooth pain.

Avoid Sugary Foods and Drinks

There are certain steps that you can take to prevent further decay in your teeth and perhaps even reverse the process. The first step is to omit or reduce those sugary foods and drinks from your diet. The sugars found in many foods and drinks produce acids that can dissolve and cause damage to the teeth. This can be detrimental when trying to heal your teeth from decay.

Do an Oil Pull

The next step to take during the healing process is to incorporate products into your daily oral hygiene routine that can aid in the healing process. Streptococcus mutans is an oral bacteria that is a leading cause of tooth decay. The fatty acid, Lauric acid, attacks the harmful bacteria in the mouth that causes tooth decay. This particular acid is found readily in coconut oil. Simply swish coconut oil in the mouth, pushing and pulling through the teeth, for about 15 minutes. Spit the oil out and then brush your teeth as you normally would.

Remineralize with Toothpaste

Have you ever bitten into an ice cream cone and literally jumped out of your seat from pain? This may be a result of the weakening of the tooth enamel which also results in decay. Brushing your teeth with a remineralizing toothpaste can help to strengthen the enamel, fend off emerging cavities, prevent further tooth decay, and restore the pH balance in your mouth.

Get Dental Treatment

If all else fails or the decay has gotten too deep into the tooth, then it may be time for a visit to the dentist. Dental crowns are a cap that dentists put over your teeth to restore it to its normal function. They are made to look like a natural tooth in both shape and size and can be helpful in preventing further decay while giving you back the smile you deserve.

There is no need to suffer the painful effects of tooth decay. Simply changing the way you eat and incorporating methods such as a coconut oil rinse and remineralizing toothpaste can go a long way to healing those teeth.
