Weak Immune System? How to Avoid Getting Sick Too Easily

When you have a weakened immune system, you might find that you get sick easier than others who are around you. The illnesses that you deal with are likely more severe as the immune system simply can't fight off the viruses that invade the body. There are several reasons as to why you might have a weakened immune system. One is that you're not getting enough nutrients into the body that will sustain the overall systems. The body relies on vitamins and nutrients to perform its job, and when those aren't introduced, it tends to shut down some of the areas that you need. Diseases, such as cancer and AIDS, can weaken the immune system. Fortunately, there are a few things that you can do to avoid getting sick.

Healthy Eating

If you're not doing so, you need to start introducing healthy foods and beverages into the body. Milk, orange juice, green vegetables, oranges and pretty much all of the fruits and vegetables will begin to strengthen the immune system so that your body can fight off viruses that invade. Vitamin C is ideal for boosting the immune system. You also need to get plenty of vitamin B and calcium. Avoid drinking a lot of sodas and eating a lot of junk food as these will deplete your energy levels and rob the body of important nutrients.

Warm Clothing

When it's cold outside, you need to do everything you can to keep the body warm. A thick jacket will help to keep the body warm, especially the arms and the neck. If keeping warm seems to be an issue for you, getting a heated jacket might be the best thing for you. If you’re outside for more than a few minutes, then you might want to consider also wearing gloves, a hat and a scarf. Another idea is to get a heated blanket that can be put on the bed at night so that you stay warm if everyone else in the house doesn't want to turn the heat up in the house or if you live in the basement where it might be naturally cold anyways.

Plenty of Sleep

Try to get at least eight hours of sleep each night. If the body is rested, then it gives the immune system and other areas of the body the energy that is needed to fight off viruses. If your sleep is interrupted, then it can cause stress to the hormones, which will lead to stress to the rest of the body. If you're looking for a way to make the body tired, then consider doing a bit of exercise during the day. This will also help to strengthen the body by circulating the blood.

Wipe Down Surfaces

Germs can linger on almost any surface. Keep a supply of disinfectant wipes in the house for each room so that you can wipe down cabinets, tables and doorknobs as these are areas where people often touch more than others. You also want to wipe off faucets and light switches. It's also a good idea to keep hand sanitizer available so that everyone can keep the hands disinfected when they can't wash them on a regular basis. Most viruses can live for a few hours or even a few days depending on how potent the virus can be to the body.

When the immune system is weakened by a lack of nutrients or an underlying disease, it can be hard to stay healthy. You want to take the proper precautions beforehand so that you don't get sick. Keep everyone else educated as well so that they can help keep viruses away from you when others are ill.
