Regardless of age, it’s never too early to start taking care of your teeth. In fact, babies also need their teeth taken care of, even if they only have one!
So, whether you’re over 40 or just shy of one years old, here are a few tips on how to make your teeth last a lifetime.
Brush Twice a Day
A healthy smile begins and ends with proper brushing. Make a point to brush for at least two minutes twice a day. Brush your teeth and tongue with a soft-bristled toothbrush using fluoride toothpaste. Doing at least twice a day removes harmful bacteria and also prevents cavities from forming.
Floss Daily
Unless you only have one tooth, you shouldn’t skip flossing. Flossing helps remove anything brushing may have missed which if left in between your teeth, can cause cavities and even abscesses. If you really don’t like flossing, you can opt for a water pick. However, you should try to floss at least once a day.
Morning Routine
Did you know that the temperature inside your mouth is about 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit? Food particles and bacteria can build up while you sleep, so it’s important not to skip brushing in the morning. Not to mention, after eight hours of sleep, your mouth probably doesn’t taste very good.
Drink Water
Sure, having a soda once in a while is okay, but if your sugar habit is out of control, your teeth will show it. If you do indulge, make sure to brush your teeth as soon as possible. When left to sit on teeth, sugar can cause tiny cracks, which in turn, gives bacteria easy access to get deep inside your teeth. Instead of sugary soda, opt for fruit-infused water that has just a touch of sweetness.
Choose the Right Dentist
Even with the most thorough of dental hygiene regimens, it’s still possible to lose teeth. If this happens, the key is replacing any missing teeth as soon as possible. A reputable dentist can advise you of what type of dental implants will work best for your individual needs.
Whether you have a head full of gray hair or only one on your head, your teeth need to last a lifetime. Follow the above four tips to ensure your teeth are healthy for years to come.
