A test to tell you if your menopause is coming soon

100,000 women participated in a study conducted by researchers from the University of Exeter Peninsula Medical School and the Institute of Cancer, both situated in England to determine when the their menopause would begin. The study developed a test that may bring us a step closer to diagnosing women who will begin their menopause early.

Finding out a time line of when you will be affected by the menopause would be a great tool to many of today's women. The trend of women in today's society is to delay childbirth until middle aged. Most women have a desire to follow a career path, achieve a stable and notable position in the work force before settling down to start a family. Having the knowledge of when you will enter the menopausal stage will be of significant importance to many women; it could help them determine if and when they will begin a family.

Four major genes were of significance during the testing. The researchers found that the four genes in question were all affected in a similar way with the women that entered the menopause early in comparison to those females that didn't start their menopause until later. They hope they can offer a test that will recognize these genes and provide information whether the female is entering menopause  early of not.

An interesting find discovered by this research was that those who entered menopause early were more susceptible to cardiovascular disease, infertility and osteoporoses. Although these women seem to be more vulnerable to the previously mentioned diseases they seemed to avoid breast cancer. Why these conditions are connected are not yet understood rather they are observations.
