It is one of the stages in life, which all women encounter.

For some it means freedom from anxiety, while many wouldnt like to even think about, much less go through the process of menopause.

What exactly happens during menopause?
Basically, a womans body stops releasing eggs to be fertilized. Her bodys hormones change in their levels and activity so the body, over a period of time, can no longer produce an egg and become pregnant.

For many women, this time has a silver lining. Ones monthly periods finally stop, removing one regular annoyance forever. The time leading up to menopause can be painfully slow for some women, however. The body may act as if its periods are slowing down, but as soon as you think they are over, they will start up again.

When women are going through the menopause phase they have to tolerate a number of side effects. These side effects cause a lot of discomfort. Women can suffer from hot flashes, mood swings and other symptoms that they go through during premenstrual syndrome. In actual the symptoms faced by women during menopause are quite similar to the ones faced by them during menstrual cycle and premenstrual time, but they are very erratic.

As with premenstrual syndrome, many factors and lifestyle changes can alleviate the negative experiences and help you cope. Also, some women experience menopause with hardly any problem at all. (These are probably the women who also had easy childbirths.) In any case, menopause can be slightly different for each person. As during other times in your life, you can be sure you are taking all the necessary vitamins and mineral supplements your body needs for healthy functioning.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are very important as they release natural antioxidants. Exercising regularly and maintaining the right diet is also very important. This time is also the time to pursue a hobby that many women have simply given up because of career and family pressure.

Many like to relax by taking warm baths, doing meditation, listening to music etc.

Many doctors would also advise women to go through hormone therapy to alleviate the problems caused by fluctuating hormone levels. A word of caution is that one must visit a qualified doctor who would provide the therapy as per the need of the women. This is a new phase in a womens life where the support of family and friends is equally reassuring. Overall the attitude should positive, and this helps women to easily under through the process of menopause.
