A smoothie can be a deliciously healthy way to fortify the body with fruits, vegetables, minerals and vitamins. Smoothies are quick and easy to make; the only things needed are the ingredients and a blender.

Smoothies can be enjoyed any time of the day but they are a popular favorite for breakfast. It has been said time and time that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So many people miss breakfast or have an inadequate breakfast due to time or priorities. Smoothies can change the breakfast situation. A smoothie can be packed with goodness on multiple levels and be taken on the go.

There are many smoothie recipes but basically making a smoothie is not rocket science; it's a bunch of ingredients in a blender. A smoothie can be made from very few ingredients to a long list of ingredients. There is a bounty of recipes that can be found through the internet on blogs and websites, but feel free to make up your own.

There are ingredients that will alter the consistency of the smoothie. Use yogurt to mix in with the fruits and vegetables and the consistency will be thicker than a smoothie mixed with milk, juice or water.

There are many different powders that can be added to a smoothie; protein, fiber, energy, soy protein etc... these don't add taste but add great goodness that will increase health and improve the immune system.

Some people may be uncomfortable with adding vegetables into their smoothies but do not worry vegetables will add favor and nutrition. Popular vegetables that are used in smoothies are spinach leaves, carrots (carrot juice), celery, cucumber, basil and cilantro.

Great smoothies often are the best when they have a natural organic form of fat added to them; coconut oil, flaxseed oil, avocado and cod liver oil are some favorite choices.
