Garlic has been long known for its natural health benefits, from treating the common cold, the flu or decreasing acne. An Australian study was made to see the abilities garlic has to lower blood pressure. The study exposed exciting results that garlic in fact does have the ability to decrease high blood pressure.
The study took a small sample of 50 participants and provided a garlic pill and a placebo pill. There was an obvious reduction in blood pressure in the individuals who took the garlic supplement. This study was repeated and the results were again confirmed that garlic has the ability to lower blood pressure.
Although the results were clear that garlic has an innate ability to lower blood pressure the research has not yet concluded if garlic alone is enough to keep blood pressure at a healthy level. So until further research has been conducted feel free to add a garlic supplement into your diet but continue to take prescribed medication for high blood pressure.
Garlic in its raw form is a great cooking asset and can be added to most meals adding flavor and health benefits. Beware of increasing your garlic in take by too much as too much garlic can have a damaging effect on your digestive track. In some cases people find they are allergic to garlic. A garlic allergic reaction would manifest itself by increasing headaches, rashes and an elevated temperature.
Garlic supplements can be found at health food stores, some super markets and online businesses.
