Britain’s using food corporations to help encourage healthier eating

Don't you just feel frustrated when you are trying so hard to live a healthy lifestyle and everything around you in pulling you in the opposite direction? The fast food that so affordable, canned good, frozen dinners are so convenient, free refills on soda, the list goes on and on. Britain has taken action and are in the process of nudging the public of Britain in the direction to a healthier life.

In 2009 the previous labour government implemented a program to promote healthy choices; the program is called "Change4life". The most recent project the Change4life program has released is an industry backed eating plan. Basically, the government is teaming up with major food manufactures to create a $390 million dollar program that will hopefully help decrease disease and obesity through healthy encouragement.

ASDA, is playing a major role in the program, ASDA is owned by Wal-Mart. ASDA will distribute a million books containing many coupons for healthier food options. The coupons will include companies such as kelloggs, birdseye, mars, nestle, ASDA's generic brand and many more. The individual communities will also hand out a combined million booklets.

The British government is hopeful that this incentive will nudge the British public in the right direction of healthy living. By providing coupons that will make healthier food options more affordable the British Government hopes that will incentivize the public.

There is some controversy as to whether the food corporations are in partnering with the government to really help Britain become healthy or to improve their own image. Regardless of the intentions behind the food corporations this program has the potential to help many individuals as they journey forward into a healthier life.
