Stanford University has researchers that believe love can be a pain killer. It is believed that passionate and intense love triggers the same response of cravings, ecstasy from drugs or winning something like the lottery.
Researchers; Professor Arthur Aron and Professor Mackey began combining research after they saw correlations in their work at a neuroscience conference. Aron was discussing Love while Mackey shared findings regarding pain. They realized that there was a connection with their findings and wondered if Love could be a possible medication for pain.
They began combining their research and conducted a study of people that were wildly in love. Finding participants was easy. The study tested the individuals who were hopelessly in love in several ways. One way they studied the effects of love on pain was achieved by inflicting pain through a probe and showing the individual a photograph of their loved one. They found that when they saw the photo of their loved partner there pain was reduced but when they saw a photo of an equally attractive person who had no relationship to the individual there was no decrease of pain.
Who doesn't need a little pain killer every now and then? Another reason to turn up the passion with you loved one. Reintroduce date night, do something special to activate or reactivate you love for your other half. Committing yourself to another person, sharing your life with them, loving them unconditionally can help you defeat pain.
