Vitamin C could play a vital role in Treatment for Sepsis

There may be a new safer way to treat patient suffering with sepsis. Vitamin C is yet again proving to great for the human body and specifically useful in helping treat Sepsis. Research led by Dr. Karel Tyml and his colleagues at The University of Western Ontario and Lawson Health Research Institute have performed a study that suggests vitamin C to be essential in treating the negative effects of Sepsis.

What is Sepsis? Well, Sepsis is a whole body inflammatory state condition. It is very serious. Another tern for Sepsis is blood poisoning. Sepsis can begin anywhere in the body and spread all over. It is treated in the intensive care unit and even healthy individuals can die from Sepsis.

Dr. Karel Tyml's research studied the impact vitamin C has on helping treat cases of Sepsis. The study used mice and injected vitamin C into their blood stream after the onset of Sepsis. In these cases the vitamin C greatly improved the mice's state of health. They found that the vitamin C prevented capillaries plugging up. Plugged capillaries prevent oxygenation. Tyml's research has focused his efforts on investigating how to prevent these capillaries becoming plugged and Vitamin C has proved to be a key player.

This research has revealed exciting opportunities for the future treatment of Sepsis. Vitamin C is cost effective, natural and has no present side effects.
