The Magic of Black Rice Bran

The most recent findings related to American Chemical Society's (ACS) award-winning podcast series, "Global Challenges/Chemistry Solutions exposes the wonderful properties of Black Rice Bran and its function as an anti-inflammatory.

Scientist from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Western Regional Research have documented their research in the ACS' bi-weekly Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry which suggests that eating black rice bran can indeed reduce inflammation, specifically inflammation caused by asthma, allergies and a few other diseases.

The outer layer of the black rice bran is bran; the bran is brushed off to create the familiar white rice. The study consisted of injecting mice that had inflammations related to allergy and asthma. The scientists found that a surprising 32% of the mice had reduced swelling compared to the mice that did not have any black rice bran. They also found that the mice that consumed 10% of black rice bran in their daily diets had positive results in reducing their inflammation.

Black rice bran could be a cheap, assessable and natural way to treat patients who sadly suffer with uncomfortable inflammation as a result of allergies and asthma. It has been concluded that black rice bran has the ability to suppress the release of histamine (swelling agents) and therefore reduces the amount of swelling.
