Born in the winter? You might be subject to neurological disorders.

There are many negative reasons why winter babies are not popular; it's cold, more chance of illness, lots of holidays to compete with etc... Now scientists are suggesting that babies born in the winter have their biological clocks altered making them more subject to developing bipolar Depression, Schizophrenia, SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and other neurological disorders.

The journal Nature Neuroscience has published the findings of Scientists from Vanderbilt University, USA. The scientists have performed research using mice to find connections between seasonal births and neurological disorders. They took several groups of mice and studied them from birth through to the summer or winter depending on what season they were born in. Then once they had achieved adulthood they exposed the mice to darkness for a prolonged period and monitored their actions.

They found that the mice that were born in the winter season slowed down their activity regardless of the seasonal environment they were exposed to. Scientists found out that the winter season had altered behavior and the cycling of the neurons in the master biological clock in their brains on the mice studied. They believe that these finding could be true in humans too.

Although the studies results are from mice scientist are eager to see is the results would stay true for human beings. Further research could help understand why certain people are somewhat pre-exposed to neurological disorders and provide people an extra incentive to have babies in other seasons to lessen their chances of developing a neurological disorder.
