If you want to posses a toned and sculpted body in limited time then Pilates is a great option to consider.

You may have heard celebrities extolling its many virtues and claiming that you can attain the perfect body by following an exercise regimen that needs just half an hour a day for three weeks. Though, this information sounds unreal and exaggerated, Pilates is definitely a very efficient and effective form of exercise, which shows great results.

Regularly practicing Pilates increases flexibility of the body and helps lengthen muscles, actually giving you a leaner look. This is why Pilates was originally developed as an exercise form to increase muscle strength for strenuous performances. Pilates is enjoyable and shows better results making you wonder why you bothered about going to the gym earlier and torturing yourself with all those pull ups and push ups.

The Pilates workout routine involves doing a lot of stretches. There are different levels of expertise of Pilate instructors. The routine is like yoga where maintaining balance, doing stretches, and getting resistance against your own weight are required. When you watch someone doing the routine it may seem easy, but it actually involves a lot of effort.

The greatest advantage of Pilates exercises is that their effect is not localized to an area or group of muscles, but the entire region. For instance, unlike as in sit-ups or abdominal crunches, Pilates exercise all the muscles of the abdomen. Along with that, they tone and strengthen the lower back and mid section; virtually the entire body.

Pilate routines are available on DVDs and videos; you can follow the instructions and include the routine in your daily exercise schedule. You can even buy different Pilate routines to bring some variety to your workout routine. Or you could even take classes with any of the public or private gyms in your city.

When you just begin to do Pilates, your different body parts and muscles may hurt and the exercises may seem difficult as well. Even if you are in good shape, on starting Pilates you may initially feel sore and weak, because while doing Pilates you are exercising muscles that normally do not get much exercise.

You'll definitely find after the first few times that your muscles strengthen, you are stronger overall, and certain muscle or joint problems are alleviated as body parts improve their endurance.
